Louisville City Council Meeting
May 2, 2000
Page 2

PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA

Paula McManus, 482 W. Spruce Street, spoke on behalf of parents and students attending
the St. Louis School. She stated that they are currently awaiting approval of four air
conditioner units for the St. Louis School. She noted that the St. Louis Parish purchased
the units after many years of complaints about the unbearable heat in the classrooms. She
noted that the units would be running during schools hours from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,
and only in the beginning and at the end of the school year. She stated that she was aware
of the problems between the school and the residents of the neighborhood.

Bob Steimle, 920 Lincoln Avenue, also spoke with respect to the air conditioner units for
the St. Louis School. Steimle noted that there has been an ongoing noise problem with
the St. Louis School. He stated that although the neighbors have sympathy for the
children suffering from the heat, they have tried for years to resolve the noise issue. He
asked the Council to carefully consider the current situation, prior to granting approval of
additional air conditioning for the church.

Mike Gheleta, 761 Pear Court, spoke to the issue of power lines going through the open
space area at the Meadows at Coal Creek. He noted that Public Service is upgrading the
current power line and this issue is under review by the Planning Commission. He was
concerned about the negative impact on the area and noted that larger lines will probably
emit noise such as humming or hissing. He was also concerned that more power poles
would be erected. He stated that the Planning Director had written Public Service a letter
and addressed many of these issues. He voiced his concern that the residents may not
have the opportunity to review the Public Service response to the City letter. He asked
Council to consider resident feedback. He suggested one solution to the potential noise
and multiple poles problem would be to put the power line underground.

Daryl Oshiro, 912 Garfield Avenue, addressed the St. Louis Church issue. He stated that
there are issues between the St. Louis Parish and the neighboring residents and he hopes
to help mediate through these issues. He stated that the issues could be resolved within
the neighborhood, but instead the City Council is being asked to become the enforcing
agency. He asked that the neighbors receive some resolution to the sound problem.

COUNCIL INFORMATIONAL COMMENTS ON PERTINENT ITEMS NOT ON
THE AGENDA

Davidson asked the City Administrator to give a progress report on the St. Louis Parish
building activities.

2
