Youth Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
DATE
Page 3of 4
Tunnel:
-Daisy: The tunnel by Monarch High School under 88th Street smells really bad
with all of the smokers migrating from the high-school.
-The smokers scare the kids as young as 5 that are walking through the tunnel
to school during high-school block days.
-There’s trash in there from everything to cigarette buts to McDonald’s bags to
Coke cans.
-It’s cemented so we could sweep it; there’s also a trash can.
-Megan:Let’s consider that for a spring clean-up project
-Joi: We could talk to the security guards who have golf carts at the high-school
to see about the amount of complaints since it’s our students. And the school is
responsible for the safety of kids on the way to and home from school.
-Eliza: Maybe a petition?
-Megan: Let’s plan on doing a spring clean-up and having one person to talk to
administration about it
-(Joi volunteered to talk to an administrator about the issue)
Eyes and Ears:
Sam: I went to a Historical Preservation meeting and they are putting a house on
Main St into the Historical Preservation Commission. It’s green with pillars and
adobe siding that is still intact from the original design.
Eliza and Brooke: We went to a Historical Commission meeting. One of the
things they discussed was a curtain they had found from the original Rex theatre
that is going to go on display in the current restaurant. They also talked about
reconstructing the museum which won’t be for a while because of the funds
needed to be raised, but right now it has and is working towards extended hours
of operation. There’s also an antique safe that has been in storage for a while
and is looking for a new permanent residency in a Louisville historical building,
such as City Hall.
Kaitlin: I went to a Parks and Recreation meeting and they talked a lot about
restoring parks. They want to talk to teens about how to improve parks, promote
environmental education.
Joi: I went to a Planning Commission Meeting and they talked about engraving a
path or sidewalk along Empire Road in Louisville. The Business Park is thinking
about constructing a deli for all of the people that work there with an outdoor
patio and chairs. They also discussed a tennis center on Dillon Road but need
moreland first. Also, Susan Loo was there and recused herself from a discussion
so that was interesting to see.
Megan: I went to an Economic Planning meeting. They’re going to try and
increase the numbers of the police force for more personnel available at the
schools like Louisville Middle and Louisville Elementary School for safety and
traffic concerns.
