Open Space Advisory Board
Agenda
Jan. 11, 2012
The tax is a significant source of revenue, and if the ballot measure
o
were to fail, there would likely be a rather substantial decline in the
level of services provided.
A citizen survey will be undertaken this year a component of which will
help understand the level of support for various proposed measures / uses
of the tax.
Questions will be finalized by (roughly) February, and members of
o
OSAB are invited to provide recommendations. Council and the
City Mangers Office will ultimately decide which questions will be
included.
Ballot language will be approved by Council in late-July or early-
o
August.
VI. Discussion: Parks, Recreation, Open Space and Trails Comprehensive
Master Plan
At the December meeting, OSAB decided to read the Parks, Recreation,
Open Space & Trails (“PROST”) Comprehensive Master Plan and add its
own comments/questions.
Kathy Kron –
Planning Commission will meet and plans to approve the plan
o
tomorrow night (Jan. 12). Council will meet and will likely adopt the
plan on Feb. 7.
Kathy answered questions brought by OSAB about the Plan.
o
One benefit of compiling the Plan is that we were able to get
o
detailed information about the quantity and quality of the City’s
recreation areas/facilities.
VII. Staff Updates
Staff from the City of Superior would like to coordinate another joint
meeting between OSAB and the Superior Open Space Advisory Board.
Additionally, there may be other community boards that OSAB
o
would like to meet with this year
Ember will distribute a copy of the 2008 Citizen Survey. OSAB is being
asked to develop 3-5 proposed questions related to policy for the 2012
Citizen Survey.
Must be drafted by the next meeting in order to be timely submitted.
o
This will be developed / discussed at the next meeting.
Ember will collect proposed questions by Jan. 30.
o
Prairie dog population reduction is complete.
The bench footprint project is complete.
A high school student from Monarch is starting an environmental
awareness group, and Ember has been in contact to see how to best
capitalize on the students’ interest.
Two bikes have been purchased for use in the park host program.
Urban Drainage has been undertaking debris removal on Coal Creek.
