Sustainability Advisory Board
January 18, 2011Meeting Minutes
Page 2of 3
Old Town is the only neighborhood with planning guidelines for aging buildings. Need to
identify neighborhoods to recognize differences and talk about how deal with
neighborhood aging housing stock.
The roll of LSAB is to help bring in qualitative aspects of Livable CitiesPrincipals into the
Comp Plan, and Planning is encouraging the board to work with Planning staff during the
Comp Plan process.
Ped/Bicycle Friendly Community Presentation
(see presentation)
Transportation is what forms development more than anything. The quality of
development has a tremendous influence on the quality of the City.
Need to recognize that our bicycle and pedestrian is overlooked as a valuable resource for
our largest asset -streets. Streets are more than something to get from point A to point B.
“10,000 Hours” book about becoming proficient at something.
Planning is looking at a bottom-Up strategy for implementing a transportation plan that is
strategic and not reactive. Example: Steel Ranch development bike lane running parallel
to train tracks vs. a bike lane on the new road giving the development a 17’ buffer from the
tracks.
Annie asked the question if the City of Louisville could do a City wide EcoPass, like the
Town of Nederland. Troy pointed out that much of Louisville is not on transit routes, but
the discussion is revolving around LMS to start in order to get an equitable treatment.
The 42 Gateway Presentation
Integrated Infrastructure Implementation Plan -Initial design of South Street connection
between downtown and Revitalization Development. This is an infrastructure plan nota
development plan.
Rail transit plans are delayed with news from RTD that they may do buses rather than rail
for the NW Corridor.
“Form follows infrastructure” (size and character of street dictates the size and character of
the building). Induced travel concept.
Troy urged board members to attend the February9th meeting on the Safeway
redevelopment. He suggested reading the staff report prior to attending. The issue is also
on the Planning Commission's 1.12.12 agenda.
LSAB QUESTIONS FOR CITY SURVEY
VIII.-TED SONTROP
Ted read the questions the board will submit for inclusion in the city's upcoming survey.
There were only two changes resulting from suggestions by Mary Ann.
