City Council
Meeting Minutes
May 1, 2012
Council member Loo stated the purpose of the meeting is to look at the project and not
to make personal attacks on the developer or City staff.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Drusilla Tieben, 2224 Crown Circle, Louisville, CO was pleased she moved from
Colorado Springs to Louisville. She did not support the project because of the mass.
She stated the cost of the apartments and townhomes would be too expensive for
young families. She noted high density can increase crimes and create more work for a
police department. She wanted more retail spaces in Louisville and urged Council to
deny the proposal.
Aquiles LaGraet, 379 Peerless Street, Louisville, CO stated common sense does not
elude the neighbors or the Planning Commission. He noted several other retailers have
expressed interest in the Safeway site. He felt the plan was not acceptable. He noted
the Planning Commission Chairperson stated an SRU is not how planning is done. He
felt it was time to stop wasting everyone's time.
Vickie Mandell-King, 601 Lincoln Avenue, Louisville, CO voiced her support of the
project. She was impressed with the City staff's ability to bring the information and
criteria to the Planning Commission and the City Council. She felt mixed use is needed
and not more strip malls. She urged Council to approve the project.
Valerie Hackman, 2282 Crown Circle, Louisville, CO felt this project was not a good fit
in an established residential area. She stated the apartment range from $800 for a
studio to $2,200 for a three-bedroom apartment. She stated if this project goes through,
she hoped renters could be found to fill those apartments. She noted other commercial
retailers have expressed interest in the site. She asked Council to deny this proposal.
Diane Woodard, 1939 Centennial Drive, Louisville, CO encouraged Council to take their
time on this proposal. She supported retail and distribution centers for this area.
Sid Vinall, 544 Circle, Louisville, CO stated Louisville is now competing with Superior,
Lafayette, Broomfield and Erie for retailers. He felt this proposal for rental apartments is
not viable. He hoped the Council will agree with the Planning Commission.
John Leary, 1116 LaFarge Avenue, Louisville, CO distributed documents to the Council,
which represented that the Loftus proposal was not consistent with the land use of the
Comp Plan and in fact, violates the policy and the framework of the Comp Plan. He
noted the Planning Commission rejected the SRU and recommended Council deny the
proposal. He did not feel it was appropriate to remand this proposal to the Planning
Commission.
