Sustainability Advisory Board
April18,2012 Meeting Minutes
Page 9of10
Expand the City’s and HOA’s trash/recycling programs to include curbside compost
pick-up (BCZWAP p 17).
4. Develop waste audits for business and increase recycling programs for
business.
In partnership with private entities, provide free waste audits to educate owners and
develop commercial rates with embedded recycling service (BCZWAP pp 24 & 25).
Mid-Term recommendations:
1. Require ZW planning for large events on public property.
Any permitted community event using City facilities or property needs to include zero
waste plan with deposit to insure compliance (BCZWAP p 38).
2. Support a regional tree limb management plan.
This is a short-term measure that needs to be addressed on a regional basis in the mid-
term (BCZWAP p 19).
3. Support Multi-Family housing to have single-stream recycling and
composting.
Develop a program thru education, ordinances, building codes, etc. that would support
and develop single stream recycling and composting (BCZWAP pp 34 & 35.)
4. Move Plastic Bag Issue from Long-term to a Mid-term goal.
Develop a fee on plastic/paper bags to encourage use of reusable bags (BCZWAPpp
48 & 49).
Next Steps:
Based on the discussion tonight (June 2011 study session), staff will come back to
Council with two resolutions on July 19th:
Endorsing the overall Boulder County Zero waste Action Plan.
Endorsing the Lafayette Waste ReductionAdvisory Committee recommendations
