Sustainability Advisory Board
April18,2012 Meeting Minutes
Page 8of10
ATTACHMENT 2TO APRIL2012 LSAB MEETING MINUTES
The following notes were created by the City of Lafayette’s Waste Reduction Advisory
Committee (WRAC), transcribed from their June2011 Power-Point slide show for
Lafayette’s City Council, as part of their endorsement of Boulder County’s Zero-Waste
Resolution 2011-
Plan. These comments were attached to their proposed & adopted
35, to Adopt the Boulder County Zero Waste Action Plan asa Guiding Document
.
City of Lafayette, Waste Reduction Advisory Committee
Recommendations concerning the Boulder County Zero Waste Action
Plan
Overview:
Recommend Lafayette support the Boulder County Zero Waste Action Plan as a
guiding document.
Education--important overall component; WRAC supports ‘branding’ efforts on a
county level while continuing its own local efforts.
Funding–needed for all options to some extent; WRAC will work with City to develop
funding mechanisms as needed for all recommendations.
‘Eliminate’ rather than ‘ban’ materials from landfills; support change in language from
‘ban’ to ‘eliminate’ or ‘remove from’.
Short-Term recommendations:
1. Develop an environmental purchasing policy for the City of Lafayette.
Purchase goods & materials for City use that have recycle content and attempt to
purchase county generated recyclables and compost (BCZWAP p 39).
2. Begin an annual electronics collection drive for Lafayette citizens.
Plan for and implement an annual event thru bids from private contractors for Lafayette
citizens (BCZWAP p 21).
3. Develop a residential curbside collection of compostable materials.
