With guidance from the Plan, future efforts we can consider include:
Dealing with waste materials from construction & demolition projects (C&Dwaste);
Expanding our current residential trash-recycling-composting program to include our
local homeowners associations (HOAs);
Implementing waste-collection programs for our multi-family housing sector, that
include collection of recyclable and compostable materials;
Implementing waste-collection programs for our commercial sector, that include
collection of recyclable and compostable materials;
Developing local ‘zero-waste’ education programs, for a variety of waste materials.
To more efficiently continue toexpand our city’s waste-diversion efforts, we encourage
you to adopt Boulder County’s Zero-Waste Plan as a guiding document for our city.
You have at least two groups within our local-government structure who can review its
recommendations in detail, asses their applicability for our city and their likelihood of
success, and pass along their recommendations to you and our city staff. Our own
Sustainability Advisory Board can review the plan’s recommendations for community-
wide applications, and the city staff’s Sustainability Committee can review the plan’s
recommendations for applications within our city-government departments.Our Parks
& Recreation Dept can refer to the Plan for options to deal with organic waste materials
that aren’t managed by current procedures. Our Public Works Dept can refer to the
Plan to provide assistance in expanding our current service levels. The Recreation
Center, Golf Course, HFAB,OSAB, DBA, CoC, and other city associations, boards, and
commissionscan refer to the Plan when they consider how to manage waste materials
from their areas of responsibility.
We believe the Plan is a well-considered document that can help guide our city’s efforts
to achieve more effective and measurable results in reducing the amounts of our
community’s waste that currently just goes to landfills.
We look forward to hearing your comments about it, and we will be available to answer
any questions you may have for us about it.
For the members of LSAB,
Mark Persichetti
Page 3of 3
