Building Code Board of Appeals
Minutes
March 15, 2012
Discussion
Projects for 2012 Building Code Board of Appeals
2012 Building Code Adoption –
Board members are to
o
review the books they have been given. Discussions will
begin at the next Board of Appeals meeting on the changes
to the 2012 codes and if the city might want to adopt into the
building codes in whole or parts. Boulder is adopting the
2012 codes. Longmont is looking at adopting them.
1. Significant changes for 2012
–Books delivered to
Board members during meeting for review. We will
discuss the changes at next scheduled meeting.
2. ICC 700
–Books delivered to Board members during
meeting for review. We will discuss the changes at
next scheduled meeting.
3. IgCC
– Books are not yet published, but are pre
ordered. Once they have been delivered, the Board
members will pick them up and review them. We will
discuss the changes at next scheduled meeting.
Current builders seem to be taking a forward
approach with the new IgCC codes and are already
building structures to meet the code. There were
about 1,400 different changes that were made. Gary
Mancuso suggested that maybe the city could add
incentives if we were to adopt any part of the codes.
Update
Mobile Home Ordinance
– The current Mobile Home Ordinance
was written in 1973. Mike Jones is checking with other jurisdictions
to compare their Mobile Home Ordinance. There are 4 homes that
could be cited, but because of outdated code, cannot be cited.
Many homes are doing work without permits. Prior Chief Building
Official allowed modifications and/or addition that didn’t not meet
State code, which voided the guarantee. 10 years ago the City
started looking toward the Mobile Home Park to clean up and bring
structures back in compliance with current codes. The city would
like to make these changes so help in enforcing the codes.
Inspection card/Permit Application
– The Building Safety
Division will be working with potential software company to make
sure that we can streamline the permit and inspection card process
better. This would make the inspection card more user friendly.
Current inspections cards and permits were handed out to Board
members to get their input on how to make them more user
friendly.
Staff Comments
– None
