Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
March 19, 2012
Discussion – 801 Walnut Street
Stewart discussed the specifics of what the design team had discussed with the
developer. He also spoke directly to the submitted plan set on what improvements they
made from the original submittal.
Lewis – it doesn’t look like bad design by committee rather helpful design by committee.
Tom Preston spoke to the HPC.He spoke to the modifications he made to the original
plans based on his discussion with the design committee.
Lewis – on clarification of the process this is a willing process between the applicant
and the design committee. I believe this dialogue has helped the design of the
structure.
Koertje – I have appreciated everything that has been done up to know. Was this a
demo.
Stewart – yes, we placed a 60 day stay on this permit so that we could explore options.
Lewis – as I recall we were doing this to fine tune the design.
Fasick – do we know when this application as first submitted.
Preston – December 23, 2011.
La Grave – have you found value in this process in working with the design committee?
Preston – yes. I like the direction the plans have taken.
Koertje – staff, has the stay already expired.
McCartney – no. The HPC stated 60 days from the last hearing date.
Fasick – it seems like a lot has happened since the last month. If we keep it for another
month what will change. I think it should be released.
Stewart – I agree.
The applicant and the HPC spent some time discussing the details of the front porch.
Koertje – I make a motion we release the stay on this structure. The design committee
should continue to have discussions with the applicant.
Fasick - I second the motion.
