Louisville City Council Meeting
December 19, 2000
Page 7.

property/building is eligible. The Applicant is willing to repeal the two wall signs
previously approved on the north and east sides of the building.

Wood reviewed that the sign is proposed to be constructed of opaque green, back lit,
reverse pan channel letters. The maximum letter height is proposed at 14 inches for the
capital letters. The logo is 2.5 feet in height, slightly larger than the 2-foot logo
previously approved. Total sign area is 42 square feet, resulting in a total sign area of
142 SF, less than the 221 SF the building is eligible for, but more than the previously
approved total of 122 SF.

Wood reviewed the Planning Commission Staff Report interpretation, which involved
determining whether the proposed sign location was an eligible "building frontage" as
defined in the City's zoning code. Wood stated that technically there is no "public
building entrance" or "main window display." The Planning Commission found that the
importance of the drive through as a public entrance to.a bank facility, combined with the
visibility of the proposed sign from both Centennial parkway and the private spine road
providing access to the property, make this an appropriate sign location.

Wood noted that the Planning Commission held a public hearing on the application on
December 12, 2000 and unanimously recommended approval of the request with six
conditions. There was Commission discussion relative to the logo height, and Staff was
directed to further research how other jurisdictions regulate logo size. Ordinance No.
1353 was tabled to allow that research to occur. In addition to the six conditions, three
minor tracking items were addressed. There were as follows:

1. That it shall be noted on the plans that the letters shall project not more than eight
inches from the face of the wall.
2. That it shall be noted on the plans that with this approval, the previous final PUD
approval for the Bank of Boulder, as it pertains to exterior signs, is hereby repealed
and revoked; and
3. That upon final approval by City Council, if granted, the Applicant shall submit a
more formal Amended Final PUD plan set, including appropriate signature blocks,
title block, etc., subject to staff review and approval prior to recording.

Sisk called for Applicant presentation.

Mike Doody, 7500 W. 84th Way, Arvada, CO, representing First National Bank of
Colorado, stated that the Bank and Gordon Sign Company believe that the entrance off
Centennial Parkway, the drive-through, is the main vehicle traffic entrance and should be
identified. He stated he was available to answer any Council questions.

7
