City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />March 13, 2012 <br />Page 2of 7 <br />LSAB has been busy with many important projects this past year,and they have <br />accomplished a lot. Major accomplishments and activities in 2011 are as follows: <br />DisseminatedSustainability Information <br />(Arno/Ted) –information made <br />available to the public by rebuilding the web page on the City’s website and <br />providing links to other important web sites and articles; provided articles for <br />the Community Update newsletter. <br />2012 Goal <br />(T. Sontrop)–Continue withupdates to the web page and <br />continue to submit articles for the Community Update newsletter. <br />Livable City Presentation – <br />(M. Heaney) Made presentationsto advisory <br />boards. <br />2012 Goal – <br />Present Livable City Presentation to remaining boards and <br />Planning Commission. <br />Move to Zero Waste– <br />(M. Persichetti)Researched elimination of plastic <br />bags and was involved in Boulder County area discussion on zero waste. <br />2012 – <br />Survey merchants about their use of plastic bags. Councilmember <br />Dalton asked the details of how the merchant survey would be handled. <br />Member Persichetti said the Board has no intention to force a ban or tax on <br />use of plastic bags. The hope would be the merchants would drivethe <br />changeor it would be Council-driven. Councilmember Dalton requested the <br />Board include City Council in this discussion if anything changes. <br />GMOs <br />(A. Hughes)–Participated in GMO public meetings with Boulder <br />County. Anniehas done extensive research on this topic.LSAB’sposition is <br />opposition to GMOs. The Board thinks this is still an open issue and wants <br />City Council to continue to discuss. Annie Hughes will meet with City <br />Manager Fleming to discuss further. Councilmember Dalton would like to see <br />the discussion of GMOs at a study session. <br />2012 <br />–Board will participate in GMO policy discussions. <br />Urban Gardening – <br />(A. Hughes/M. Heaney) Reviewed and provided <br />feedback on the Planning Department’s white paper on urban agriculture, <br />began researching sites for additional community gardens, and setup a <br />website for a Louisville Garden exchange to assist people who want totrade <br />the use of their own property for the purpose of gardening <br />2012 <br />–Propose an additional community gardenlater in the year(this <br />proposal would be for the use of public land, andnot on open space),and <br />continue to publicize and supportthe Louisville Garden Exchange. <br />Greenhouse Gas Emissions/Energy Assessment <br />(M. Heaney) –Baseline <br />audit with CU Denver IGERT program, assessments made community-wide <br />for residential and commercial use of electricity, natural gasand <br />transportation. <br /> <br />
