Revitalization Commission
Minutes
DATE
Approval of Meeting Minutes — The minutes from the April 9, 2012 meeting
were approved as written.
Public Comments — None.
Introduction of Economic Development Director — Aaron DeJong was
introduced as the City's new Economic Development Director.
Reports of the Commission — None.
Business Matters of the Commission — Commissioner Menaker brought up the
seasonal patios which are located in Old Town for discussion, and Malcolm
suggested the topic get more discussion as a future agenda item.
Limited wholesale sales were brought up by Planning Director Russ, who noted
there is interest in expanding it beyond food production. A code change has
been approved recently by Planning Commission and will next go before City
Council for final approval.
Update on 42 Gateway Project — Director Russ provided an update on the
project and discussed the crossing under the railroad tracks. Two conceptual
options have been developed, and Option #2 has been received more favorably
to date. The maximum dimensions available to the underpass are approximately
32 ft. wide by 10 ft. high, but these may be reduced, especially the height. The
area is larger than comparable underpasses in Boulder. Staff is working with
BNSF on scheduling, and how to maximize the vertical clearance.
Commissioner Menaker asked whether the underpass design can accommodate
the second track from RTD, and Director Russ confirmed it is being designed
with the addition of that track in mind.
Update on FasTracks — Mayor Muckle noted RTD would not pursue an
additional sales tax on the ballot this year. This helps in that there is more time
to prepare and agree to a unified vision for the NW corridor prior to a future ballot
measure; however, there is also concern that RTD may lose focus on the NW
corridor. The Mayor and Deputy Manager Balser commented on the need for the
City to keep the process with RTD moving forward.
Downtown Wayfinding — Principal Planner Sean McCartney presented
examples of signage to be used in the downtown area, including those signs
specifically for public parking. Sign design will recognize the City's historical
quality, and four-sided kiosks will provide visitors more detailed information about
downtown. The RFP for the project is due on Friday, with the work possibly
being complete by mid -June.
