Louisville Historical Commission <br />Meeting Minutes <br />March 21, 2012 <br />Louisville Public Library Meeting Room <br /> 951 Spruce Street <br />6:30 p.m. <br />I. Call to Order <br />: Commission Vice Chairperson Anne Robinson called the meeting to order at <br />6:30 p.m. <br />II. Roll Call: <br />Commission Members Present <br />: Dave Ferguson, Pat Seader, Lynn Koglin, Sally Burlingame, <br />Anne Robinson, Andrew Williams, Brian Chamberlin, Jennifer Strand <br />Commission Members Absent: <br /> Dan Mellish, Gladys Levis-Pilz <br />City Representatives Present: <br />Gavin McMillan, Louisville Planning Department <br />Frost Yarnell, City Council <br />Beth Barrett, Directory of Library & Museum Services <br />Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator <br />Member of the Public Present: <br /> Jean Morgan <br />III. Approval of Agenda: <br /> Members approved the agenda. <br />IV. Presentation of City’s Comprehensive Plan – Gavin McMillan, Louisville Planning <br />Department. <br /> The City is in the process of updating its comprehensive plan and has been <br />conducting public meetings for input. Gavin asked each Commission member to write three <br />essential values for Louisville on individual sticky notes, and place them on the white board. <br />He then grouped the responses into categories and led a discussion to elicit deeper <br />information. Among the items discussed were: <br />-- Small town atmosphere with under 25K, clear town boundaries, where people know others, <br />know businesses, has a downtown, is safe, pedestrian friendly, and with free parking; <br />-- Family oriented with good schools, family roots across the generations; <br />-- Value and Preserve History – preserve the built environment, the town’s collection, its <br />archives, its stories, and with a new building to house the historical museum <br />-- Foster a stimulating environment for continuous learning – history, art, public events that <br />inspire community participation <br />-- Other -- Louisville doesn’t look like other places, has a character that we need to maintain <br />and cultivate, needs jobs, needs a mix of housing including affordable housing for young <br />families, needs to attract local businesses to develop a thriving business community, open <br />space and trails. <br />V.
