City Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> June 5, 2012 <br /> Page 9 of 16 <br /> - wasn't sure Planning Commission would change their mind with the changes made <br /> - would like to see this project in east Louisville <br /> Council member Loo felt the Planning Commission could be very open minded in <br /> considering the changes made to this proposal. <br /> Council member Keany thought there was a time when City Council overturned a <br /> Planning Commission decision with Sam's Club. He was unsure if this project belonged <br /> where proposed and wanted Planning Commission to review the changes as now <br /> presented to Council. He appreciated the public involvement. <br /> Council member Jasiak voiced her support of the residents in Ward one and assured <br /> them she took her job seriously. She appreciated the time taken by the developer to <br /> speak to residents but was not sure the project was right for the area and was <br /> concerned about the density and parking. She didn't want to send this back to Planning <br /> Commission if it would only belabor the process. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Michael Menaker, 1827 W. Chokecherry Dr., Louisville, CO asked Council to make a <br /> decision tonight, but if it was returned to Planning Commission to give the specifics. <br /> Brent Wilson, 1955 Sunnyside Circle, Louisville, CO wanted Council to remand back to <br /> Planning Commission. Felt this was good for the City and was glad someone was using <br /> their dollars to invest in the City. He supported the project. <br /> Walt Oehlkers, 665 W. Juniper Ct., Louisville, CO has been in the area for a long time. <br /> In favor for three reasons - would provide spaces for seniors, places for people who <br /> could start businesses, redevelopment of this project. He spoke of the development he <br /> has seen over the years. He said retail is not local as it used to be with intemet <br /> shopping. He addressed the vacancy in surrounding areas and specifically the South <br /> Boulder Road area. Asked Council to change philosophy and thinking and reassess <br /> some of the sights designated as commercial and residential. He asked the elected <br /> officials to vote in support of the citizens of Louisville. He passed around petitions and <br /> had many signatures in support of this project. <br /> Drusilla Tieben, 2224 Crown Circle, Louisville, CO said it was ugly and needed to be <br /> filled, but cautioned against not having locally owned businesses. She said there were <br /> ways to fill the vacant big boxes and wanted the options examined. Economic viability <br /> and sustainability need to be addressed and she wanted the Council to vote no. <br /> Steve McGrath, 738 Wildrose Way, Louisville, CO thanked the staff for presenting <br /> comprehensive, fact based analysis and the developer for listening and changing the <br /> plans. He supports the project because right now the City is faced with dead space. He <br />
