City Council
Meeting Minutes
June 5, 2012
thought remanding it to Planning Commission might be a good way to address the issue
and asked Council to represent the entire community.
Devona Saylor,2253 Crown Circle, Louisville, CO thought once Steel Ranch was
completed, the apartments in the area would be sufficient. She felt the development
wasn't changed enough in this process and was too massive and didn't fit the
community. She wanted the commercial left as it is and for Council to take Planning
Commission's recommendation.
Darlene Nahodyl, 2333 Dogwood Circle, Louisville, CO realized the economy is not
doing well but didn't want Louisville to become strictly a bedroom community. She had
looked at a similar development (The District at Southmoor Station) and thought the
rents excessive, the parking limited and didn't like the concept of walking across a
pedestrian bridge with groceries. She wanted something viable in this space and
wanted the community to receive benefit and urged Council to vote against the project.
Sid Vinall, 544 Leader Circle, Louisville, CO felt the opposition concerned density,
parking, traffic, height and fiscal impact. There was a suggestion of blight but he felt the
building was just a big, empty white building not blighted. He addressed the vision of
the Comprehensive Plan. He asked Council to vote no and make Louisville an
economically viable community.
John Nahodyl, 2333 Dogwood Circle, Louisville, CO stated his opposition was primarily
of an architectural nature. He addressed parking issues. He wanted to present best
practices to Old Town additions. To preserve the character and continue the unique
feel of Louisville, consider height and mass and architectural properties of our buildings.
He thought the size and scope of this project exceeded anything in Louisville and used
Lego blocks to emphasis his point. He thought it was out of character for Louisville.
Susan Morris, 939 W. Maple Court, Louisville, CO thanked Council and staff for their
insightful questions and presentation. She felt the project does not work with the
Comprehensive Plan and didn't want it sent back to Planning Commission. She asked
Council to vote no on this tonight.
Beverly White stated she has lived here five years and loves this project thinking it will
bring vibrancy to the area. She suggested the Sam's Club area might also be
appropriate for this project.
Karl Becker, 899 Welsh Court, Louisville, CO sees the City not as one place, but made
up of many places and vacant spaces make it not completely healthy. He wanted
Council to look at this as an opportunity to move Louisville forward and if remanding
back to Planning Commission would achieve this, which should be done.
John Leary, 1116 LaFarge Ave., Louisville, CO charged Council with taking action at
this meeting. He addressed neighborhood compatibility and the Comp Plan and didn't
feel this was how planning should be done in Louisville.
