City Council
Study Session Summary
May 22, 2012
Page 7of7
City Manager Fleming gave an update on the ICSC 2012 Conference that he just
returned from in Las Vegas and attended with Mayor Muckle and Aaron DeJong,
Economic Development Director. They met with 13 different entities along with
an additional 12 contacts, some of which were the Crosbie Real Estate Group,
Home Depot, Lowes, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger's (King Soopers), CBRE,
Stephen Tebo (local property owner), Mike Kranzdorf (local property owner), the
Louisville Plaza broker, Wyndham Hotels, Buxton, Galloway, and ARC.
The conference was very beneficial with ideas shared about the empty Sam's
Club building, met with ARC on the possibility of moving into the Louisville Plaza,
and learned through a meeting with King Soopers that the updated new store
front and interior remodeling cost the company $6 Million.
Met with property brokers familiar with Louisville, and some brokers that were not
familiar with the Louisville area, however, the broker for King Soopers knows
Louisville well and would like to expand.
Mayor Muckle added that the meeting with Home Depot representatives was
positive. Their outdoor sales are good this time of year. Also met with
Walgreen's representatives who indicated the McCaslin store is doing well and
the status is good at the South Boulder Road store.
City Manager Fleming commented on the valuable set of meetings scheduled
through the two and a half days they were at the conference. Meetings are back -
to -back sometimes in opposite corners of the convention center and so it was
helpful to have three people covering everything.
Councilmember Loo asked to discuss one item on the advanced Council agenda
for June 5th and that was the HPC Appointment for the recently vacated position.
After discussing this item, City Council requested to see the letter of interest and
cover letter for the proposed candidate and requested some additional
information be provided to them on other candidates that were interviewed during
the interview process last November, and to pull out candidates that had listed
HPC as their first choice for an assignment.
Discussion Items for Next Study Session on June 12, 2012 and
Identification of Future Agenda Items — None discussed.
Adjourn - The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.
Submitted by Polly Boyd
June 1, 2012
