City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />May 22, 2012 <br />Page 6of7 <br />• Enhance the education and outreach programs <br />• Review and make recommendations regarding development and <br />construction plans, management concerns, and CIP Matrix for open space <br />• Assist in the development of a wayfinding program — trail users need to <br />know where they are and so it's been suggested to place street names on <br />the underpasses identifying the streets above. <br />Comments /Questions: <br />• Ember Brignull, Open Space Coordinator, thanked Mike Schantz and <br />Helen Moshak for their hard work on the geocaching project. A geocache <br />adventure is soon to debut on Louisville Open Space. <br />• Ember gave an overview of the parking lot renovation project at the <br />Aquarius Trailhead. The grand opening /ribbon cutting took place this <br />evening. <br />• Joe Stevens, Director of Parks and Recreation, said HFAB reviewed the <br />plant palette and Public Works got involved on the entry. The goal was to <br />create a rural - looking trailhead to coordinate with the feel of the Louisville <br />Cemetery and the surrounding area. OSAB took the lead on review on <br />the design and Director Stevens said he was very proud of what was <br />accomplished. <br />• Director Stevens informed Council that the CTC Trail bid project bid <br />opening is on May 23rd. Plans are to begin construction of the trail in July <br />and late summer /early fall completion. <br />• Open Space Coordinator Brignull talked about the improvements that <br />have been made to the Coal Creek Trail as it goes down the hill from the <br />Aquarius Trailhead, next to Highway 42. This stretch of trail has had <br />continuing problems with erosion, but since the multiple culverts have <br />been installed there have been no erosion problems. <br />• Mayor Muckle thanked the Board and especially thanked them for their <br />educational programs. Tom Davinroy gave thanks to Ember Brignull for <br />coordinating all the programs. <br />• Director Stevens said that Ember has taken the lead to grow the open <br />space program. Fishing Frenzy, a high profile event with many volunteers <br />has been a success and is coordinated with the Recreation Center, Parks <br />Division and Colorado Parks & Wildlife. <br />• Tom Davinroy announced that OSAB plans for Hecla Reservoir to be a <br />bird - watching lake. <br />• Tom Davinroy's daughter, Hannah, celebrated her 17th birthday tonight <br />and Tom was missing the festivities. "Thanks, Hannah for allowing your <br />Dad to step away for this presentation." Happy Birthday! <br />City Manager's Report — <br />City Manager, Malcolm Fleming, distributed the current City Council Advanced <br />Agenda. <br />
