Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
May 21, 2012

Johnson stated the structures on the west end of the cul de sac were built in the mid
1990’s. The structure across the street appears to be original.
Stewart inquired whether the HPC answered their questions.
Johnson stated ultimately they would like to have more discussion and have a sense of
where this goes. He stated he liked the idea of this being part of the annexation
process.
Robinson stated staff will check with the City Attorney to see if there is any chance to
process this along with the annexation process.
Poppitz stated he would encourage the applicant to preserve the front portion of this
structure.
Public Hearing – 1116 Lafarge Avenue – Demolition Request
Stewart and Speier recused themselves because of prior involvement with the property.
Koertje took over as the chairperson.
Robinson presented the information provided in the packet.
Koertje inquired if the applicant was present.
Robinson answered no.
Poppitz inquired whether the HPC should table this hearing since the applicant is not
present.
Koertje stated the HPC has a certain amount of time that we must follow by law, so we
cannot table this request.
McCartney stated the HPC can put a conditional stay on this property and have it
brought back to the next meeting.
Koertje inquired if there is any evidence of what the condition of the property is.
Robinson answered no.
Koertje stated he was on the fence about this one, even though he was on the sub-
committee. The changes to the siding and windows appear to remove the architectural
integrity. The social integrity is not very strong but there was a mining foreman and a
fire chief who lived here.
Poppitz added maybe they can retain the front of the house.
Fasick stated they have already been in here to see the HPC and she was not sure if
they are interested in saving this structure.
