Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2012

Fasick - I don't have a problem with committing to the $181,000 and we might be able to
go above that with the extra ordinary circumstances.
Koertje - I think no matter what we recommend council could change it. So whether or
not we limit the project or approve everything it is ultimately Council’s final say. I do
think you should proceed.
Stewart - I believe it is a hard sell to say the entire 4000 square foot addition is
preservation, but I do believe this is a worthy project. I would like to see this go forward.
Lewis - As a point of encouragement I would hate for you to give up on this based on
our wishy-washy nature. We could apply the design assistance to this project even
though you don't need it. It would give more credibility to the project and give us more
opportunity to discuss
Robinson - you might want to consider going to council for a discussion/direction item to
get a better understanding of which direction they might go.
Public Hearing - 1005 Lafarge
Robinson gave staff presentation, which included social history and photos.
Bob Qualls, owner. This house is in need of repair - windows, electrical, exterior repair,
bathroom. Our intent is to maintain the character of the home and would need funding
to assist.
Tucker Qualls gave some more details on what they would like to do.
Stewart - is the accessory structure part of the landmark request as well.
Qualls - no.
Public Comment
John Leary - I think this is a very sincere landmark application.
Commission Discussion and Action
Lewis - I have been wanting to see this type of architecture come before us for a while.
Stewart - this almost seems to be a style unique to Louisville. It almost has a colonial
revival front with a clipped gable.
Lewis - when I first saw this structure I thought it was more craftsman. I am really in
support of this application do to its unique architecture.
Fasick - is the return gable over the porch seen anywhere else on the structure.
Robinson - no.
