CAChWEV EEC]
C cAlbcp m@ur CAM
The 42 Gateway
Downtown Connection - Comparable Examples
Broadway`S iii•
North Boulder
The final evaluation will be more subjective than simple
length and width comparisons but this review of three local
pedestrian underpasses offers a point of comparison from
which the Short St. connection can be considered. Specifi-
cally, the underpass at Broadway St. and College Ave. near
CU offers a fairly similar set of physical constraints as those
found in this project and is generally considered to be safe
and comfortable.
One key difference between this project and these ex-
amples is that none of them pass under a railroad. Both the
railroad company and Public Utilities Commission each
have standards that require specific dimensions for pedes-
trian underpasses the major ones being:
• 10' of vertical clearance in tunnel
• bridge structures depth of 4-5' from the top of tracks
• 50-55' of tunnel ( necessity of a second set of tracks)
LCity,/
Louisville
