MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR Continued from page 1 The City Council continues to be fiscally prudent and the reinstatement of the fireworks display should not be interpreted that Louisville's financial issues are in the rear view mirror. We have a very positive cash surplus and have not issued bonds since the library bonds were approved in 2003. In fact, in March our bond rating was improved by Standard and Poor's to an "AA." The empirical evidence is clear: Louisville's financial situation is very sound. That said, it is imperative that we maintain a solid relationship with our business community and that we continue to trust one another. We have worked extreme- ly hard to cultivate these relationships. Whether it be ConocoPhillips or a one person operation, these rela- tionships are vital to the success of Louisville. To ensure economic progress we must partner with our business community. I know we can achieve this result without sacrificing the qualities that make Louisville great. I am confident the events such as July 4th, the Street Faire, and the Taste of Louisville will make the Summer of 2011 not only memorable, but will instill in all of us the value of our community, which we should not take for granted. Photos gathered over the previous year that capture the essence of "Life in Louisville" will be showcased and added to a collection documenting Louisville, its resi- dents, visitors, events, and all around lifestyle. This competition aims to help preserve images and reminders of Louisville for future generations. The average citizen's idea of what "Life in Louisville" is will be an invaluable historical asset to this and future generations.
