MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
Continued from page 1
line to Louisville. We are working hard with RTD to
make sure we get the rail service we were promised in the
2004 Fastracks vote.
On a positive transportation note, the Colorado De-
partment of Transportation is building bus express and
carpool lanes on Highway 36 from Pecos to 88th Street
in Louisville, to be completed by close of 2014. We are
working with our regional partners to locate funding for
completing these bus lanes to Boulder in the same time
frame.
Finally, your City Council and I will continue to
work hard to maintain our small town character, strive
for excellence and transparency in government at all
times, preserve our historic resources, enhance our ser-
vices, and support new and existing businesses to help
grow our local economy. This is the government, you the
people, deserve.
WHERE'S THE PARKING?
The City is currently working on a Wayfinding
Sign program for Downtown. Wayfinding is
defined as "a comprehensive signage system in a stan-
dardized format that clearly communicates the location
of parking and various
destinations to all types of
travelers — auto, bicycle,
and pedestrian." City
staff met with Downtown
stakeholders about the
signs earlier this year and
received positive feedback.
The new program will
include a specific sign design to direct vehicular traffic to
the existing public parking lots at the Historical Mu-
seum, next to and under the Library, at the Steinbaugh
Pavilion, behind City Hall, and on Pine Street. We hope
better signage will help visitors to Downtown find the
parking they may have not previously known was avail-
able.
Sign fabrication and installation is expected in the
next few months. Look for the new signs to start pop-
ping up in Downtown later this summer.
ENVISION Louisville
The City is in the process of updating the Louis-
ville Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive
Plan is a tool that integrates and aligns governing regula-
tions, infrastructure, and services with community val-
ues, needs, and civic priorities. The Comprehensive Plan
provides everyone a voice in envisioning and guiding the
City's evolution. Specifically, the Comprehensive Plan:
• Illustrates a community -based vision.
• Sets the policy framework (goals /objectives) for
future land use.
• Outlines the implementation and ongoing
monitoring of the vision.
The intent of this update is to build upon and
strengthen the vision established in 2005, and updated
in 2009. Updating the Comprehensive Plan is a signifi-
cant joint effort of the community, City staff, the Plan-
ning Commission, and the City Council. Steps in the
process are:
• Initial Community Outreach
• Existing Conditions Assessment
• Community Visioning and Plan Update
• Community Feedback
• Documentation and Adoption
The update will reaffirm and realign existing policies
with new policies to address current and future issues.
This will allow the community to better visualize, com-
municate, and implement the City's long -term vision.
The drafting of the update includes significant
community outreach, including an interactive com-
munity dialog web -site wwwEnvisionLouisvilleCO.
com. The site is specifically designed to facilitate on-
line conversations regarding the many aspects of the
Comprehensive Plan. Check-out the site, register, and
participate in the conversations.
It is expected to take nine months to draft the 2012
update and an additional one to two months for the
update to have public hearings before both the Planning
Commission and the City Council. All of this should be
complete by year -end.
For more information on the update and how to
give input, please contact the Planning Division at
303.335.4592. Visit www.EnvisionLouisvilleCO.com
now to join the conversation.
May 2012
