City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />August 28, 2012 <br />Page 5 of 5 <br />• Does Monarch High School use the golf course? Both the Men's and <br />Ladies Teams practice at the golf course and hold tournaments. <br />• The Advisory Board is hoping Western Golf makes significant <br />improvements to the interior of the clubhouse after all the City <br />improvements have been completed. <br />• Golf Course does not pay for capital improvements. <br />Closing Comments: <br />• Councilmember Sackett thanked the Golf Course Advisory Board and staff <br />for the significant improvements to the course — "it's a real asset." <br />• Mayor Muckle pointed out that in 2015 $1.7 to $2.0M is planned for <br />improvements to the irrigation system, and asked City Manager Fleming if <br />that kind of money would be available? Mayor Muckle and City Manager <br />Fleming confirmed there is more analysis that is needed. <br />• The GCAB was formed on June 7, 2010 and Ken Gambon thanked <br />Council because all the improvements at the golf course would not have <br />been possible without City Council's support. <br />• Member Lisa Norgard pointed out that non - golfers appreciate the beauty <br />of the course; the natural wildlife and the character. <br />• Councilmember Jasiak wants to see new generations visiting the course. <br />Would like to see a summer program for kids to get them onto the course <br />for purpose of the beauty, wildlife and the natural habitat the course has to <br />offer. Suggested a moonlight snow shoe event. <br />• Director Stevens said staff is trying to get more conifers onto the course. <br />There is a planting plan that dates back to the construction of the course <br />in 1990.
