Ember Brignull
Dear City of Louisville, Colorado Tech Center and Boulder County Open Space and Trails,
I am a Lafayette resident, living in the South Pointe neighborhood and wanted to say thank you for completing a
the Coal Creek/CTC trail on the south side of Hwy 42 inside of the CTC complex. As a seventeen year South
Pointe resident it is so nice to finally have a way to connect to the Coal Creek trail on the south side of Hwy 42,
eliminating my families need to cross a very busy and pedestrian unfriendly highway in order to access both
Louisville and Lafayette.
Now that the trail seems to be open I do have one question: Is the straight away section that runs east to west,
along the Mayhoffer Open Space complete?
The integral part of the trail for South Pointe residents I is the new gravel section along the Mayhoffer Open
Space. This part of the trail allows South Pointe residents to ride along on a safe path abutting the highway
without integrating with high speed cars, however, the trail is incomplete.
Someone has haphazardly laid gravel down on the prepared path the abuts the new Boulder County Open Space
fence line (we saw volunteers building it this summer) leaving no indication of where the path connects with
South Pointe, or where the path should end at 104th Street. In addition, mounds gravel, exposed weed barrier
and PVC pipe have been left at the South Pointe path connection that make it difficult for even the most skilled
cyclist, runner or walker to access the path. My fear is someone will get hurt because the path was not laid
down correctly and in no way starts or stops with access for all walks of life, including people with disabilities
or the elderly.
This section of the path is also unmarked. Where the CTC /Coal Creek addition further west of this section is
clearly marked, this section along Hwy 42 has no name, no contact information and no map showing how one
can connect with the new CTC /Coal Creek trail to the west. Our family found the trail connection by trial and
error.
South Pointe is much of an island in the City of Lafayette, and has limited access to trails since it was built in
1995. After seventeen years, we are thrilled by this new connection to Boulder County trails, however we are
perplexed by the inadequate access to our neighborhood, and the care in which this section of the trail was laid
down. Could the City of Louisville, the CTC and or Boulder County please comment on how this situation can
be rectified? Our neighborhood of 305 homes is connected through a large Google Group, which is also
connected with the Dove House /Gate House, the Boulder's Town Homes and the Autumn Meadows
neighborhood to the north. Questions have been circling about the paths incompleteness and who can be
i
