• VI. Community Park
Horticultural & Forestry Advisory Board
Minutes
September 1, 2005
Chris Lichty reported positive progress on the construction of the new Community Park
and a general discussion ensued among Board members regarding similar
observations. No action was required by the Board.
VII. Arboretum Planning
Fred Banta reported on modification made on the draft since the last Board meeting
based upon comments provided by Board members. Additional editing was performed
on the new draft during the meeting.
Discussion was held about the drawings completed by Courtney and how to digitize
them for use in future presentations and documentations. Chris stated that he would
approach CADCO or other computer drafting business to see about converting
Courtney's drawings into AutoCAD files.
The Board discussed the schedule and costs of projects for the Arboretum that Chris
submitted to the City Manager for budget consideration. The Board concurred with the
budget and schedule and cost estimates submitted and will include them in the
Arboretum Plan. IT was suggested that the name of the area that Courtney designated
as the Xeric Demo Garden be changed to avoid confusion with the raised Xeric
• Demonstration Garden. Theresa Rounds suggested that it be called the "Giving
Garden" and the area be used to acknowledge the gifts that are given to further
development of the Arboretum. Theresa suggested that the website provide information
about how to contribute to the arboretum.
•
The Board discussed how and when the HFAB Arboretum Plan should be provided to
the council. It was determined that the Plan and related materials be provided to the
Council for their next study session; which is On September 13. This would be followed
up with HFAB reinforcing the proposal at an October City Council meeting, as
appropriate.
The HFAB strategy for getting the Arboretum material to the Council is as follows:
• Chris is to get Arboretum on the agenda for the Study Session.
• Chris provides design boards for Council Study Session.
• The Arboretum Plan is to be completed by Fred and provided to Chris to make
copies and distribute for the Study Session.
• HFAB presentation to the City Council is to be made at an October meeting
(determination of the best date is to be reported by Chris at October HFAB
meeting).
• Chris will place the Arboretum design boards and additional items at the
recreation center and elsewhere in Louisville to provide the public with
information about the Arboretum.
