•
•
•
Primary problem is that no one knows about the arboretum. Matt suggested getting
information into any "welcome to the city" info that is handed out (Welcome
Wagon). Others recommended producing a flyer about the arboretum to be available
at City Hall with information for using the space for private use. Ellen felt signage
from the street would be nice. In the case of private affairs, is a permit necessary? Is
alcohol allowed in city spaces with permits? Parking is still limited. How is it
reserved? Who maintains a calendar for reserved use?
There are no garbage cans, shelter or restrooms. Theresa thought that advertising it to
elementary schools would be a good thing as currentlyy many classes are bussed to
Chautauqua for botany and ecology studies.
The footbridge is now in place for the arboretum so it's now accessible from the Rec
Center. The skate park may open in January unless we have a lot of bad weather.
Lighting for the skate park is not budgeted before March.
Planning: park entry way, Susan has many versions of preliminary drawings for the
arboretum; we need an updated one.
Matt brought up the issue of needing an overall plan for the arboretum. This has been
brought up many times. Group agreed to wait on promotion until we have a long -term
plan for the arboretum. Susan will pull together an information packet for each
HFAB member from her historical files.
3. Median Design Guidelines
Susan is going to call Elizabeth Mogen at CSU to see if Louisville's median
revitalization design would be accepted as a CSU senior project in Landscape Design
and Construction Senior Design Studio.
Meredyth Muth never made copies for HFAB of the design produced by a student in
this project for the Historical Museum property from 2002. Chris needs to check on
this.
4. Landscape Maintenance by TruGreen
Group discussed all the shrubs that have died this year under the misuse of the
TruGreen LandCare crews. Theresa talked with Rob Teetzel to ensure that the city is
not paying for their replacement. Looks like misuse of roundup and =herbicidal drift.
The group, again, discussed having an opportunity to review the specifications for
landscape maintenance. Theresa proposed that we move on this as soon as we finish
with the park review.
5. Landscape Maintenance Contract Specifications
Group wants to have a work session in the December meeting to work on just this
issue to help the City. Chris needs to get copies of the existing contract to each
member prior to the December meeting (hand deliver at the November 18th work
session).
6. Stop Sign Site Areas
Theresa brought up the issue of sight blockage at intersections — who is responsible
for correcting landscape encroachment for safety vision?
