•
LOUISVILLE HORTICULTURE AND FORESTRY BOARD
Meeting Minutes
November 6, 2003
Opening:
The regular meeting of the Horticulture and Forestry. Board was called to order at 7PM
on November 6, 2003 in the Louisville Recreation Center by Susan
Present:
Susan Spaulding, Chair
Betty Solek
David Russell
Judith Turner
Terry Cook
Chris Lichty, City Forester
Guests:
Keith Williams, Director of Recreation and Senior Services
Erik Spring, Design Concepts
Rob Layton, Design Concepts
A. Approval of Minutes
• The minutes of the previous meeting were unavailable for review. Terry Cook has yet to
type and distribute them
•
B. Old Open Business
Xeric Garden Plant List.
Terry Cook brought handouts about using native plants in a garden from a recent Boulder
County Master Gardener training class. Chris brought a packet from Chuck Reno on the
progress of the Xeric Garden construction. Terry requested that Chuck and Chris label
each segregated area of the mounds and measure square footage. David requested bird's
eye view pictures; Chris responded that a tree company with a boom truck is coming and
he could take those pictures. We also need to develop 1 -3 priority choices for each plot.
Susan and Terry voiced need to get with Mikl Brawner of Harlequin's Garden and seek
his input. Chris will attempt to contact Mikl and go visit his xeric demonstation garden
in north Boulder. The desire is to start planting in early May. Chris will call Howie
Mandel of Rocky Mountain Native Plants for cultivation and picture information and a
list of available plants for this spring.
Entry Plantings
Susan raised the issue of the McCaslin/S. Boulder Road corner — looks uncared for and
has a dead spruce. Chris responded that the city doesn't own the land. However, Judy
responded that all those plants were in the original design and the city must own it. Chris
has cleaned up the more formal areas. Chris is to check on property lines and pursue.
She also mentioned the dead trees at the McCaslin/Hwy 36 entry.
