Cultural Council
Meeting Minutes
October 18, 2012
> Assist in the creation of a vision statement for the overall project and
recommendations for maintaining alignment with that vision over time.
➢ Propose an outline of fees, timelines and a general steps to be taken
to complete the project.
Need to fill Treasurer /Grant Prep for 2013 — It is the end of Justine's term.
• Grant Writing Workshop through Art Underground. Lori Jones had contacted
Colorado Creative Industries would be interested in coming to Louisville to do
a grant writing training session.
• Inquiry from Laura Webster, Art Teacher, Fireside Elementary inquired about
the ending of the Youth Art Show in December. The show has been
combined with the LAA, LCC and Louisville hosted show in March. Laura
has been invited to attend an LAA board meeting in order to share ideas and
thoughts about how LAA can support local teachers promoting a love of art
and pride in personal creativity among school children.
• Haitian Band visiting - A faculty member at CU Denver, interested in
helping Haiti build a sustainable, thriving society notified LCC to see if
there was interest in supporting a cultural exchange.
'2 Rasin' recently received their visas and will be touring the US in
October - November. Because two band members have family in
Denver, they are beginning their tour in Colorado. 2 Rasin
(pronounced day - rahseen, meaning 2 roots) is a 5 -piece band from
Petionville, Haiti. Their original music is fantastic, with Kreyol lyric
that promotes peace, love, respect, and equality. Mona Augustine,
their singer /song - writer /guitarist has managed his own IDP
(internally displaced person) camp since the earthquake, has won
music awards, has a children's song that all children in Port-au-
Prince sing, is a strong advocate for Haitian children, and is a great
painter. They also have lead guitar, violin, bass, and percussion.
In addition to music, they also have programs to share Haitian
history and culture. I know the notice is short, but if you could hold
an event in Louisville, 2 Rasin would love to perform.
VI. Treasurer's Report / Grant Updates - See attached report.
VII. Event Reports /Status
• On the Same PagelStories on Stage: Shary. The actor did a good job.
Despite all the advertising participation was low.
• Old Town Cinema Event. Had a great turnout (125 people) and overall
great night. Many people asked when we are doing it again. Jill would love
