Comp Plan TopicSummary <br />Public Infrastructure <br />Water and Sewer <br />Louisville acknowledges that water resources in Colorado are finite. With projected climate changes and <br />population growth, the City recognizes the need to managewater in a sustainable, effective, and efficient <br />manner. <br />Principle HS-1. The City should provide a cohesive direction for the protection, use, and development <br />of water resources <br />Policy HS-1.1: <br />The city should incorporate the goals of water quality protection, and surface and ground water <br />conservationby adopting water efficient ordinancesand codes. <br />Policy HS-1.2: <br />The City should participate in regional resource planning efforts for water quality protection, <br />conservation of regional and local waterresources, and development of water wise approaches. <br />Policy HS-1.3: <br />The City should establish priorities forobtainingadditional municipal water supplies to insure <br />adequate drinking water for projected development and usage needs. <br />Policy HS-1.4: <br />The City should strive to maintain in-stream flows and preserve agricultural usesof water. <br />Policy HS-1.4: <br />The city should seek to reduce point and nonpoint sources ofcontaminants thatmay adversely <br />affect groundwater, subsurface water, water supplies,andprotect and restore natural water systems. <br />Principle HS-2.The City should support development and redevelopment strategies that promotecost- <br />effective, least destructive,most sustainable approachesto handling diminishing water supplies. <br />Policy HS-2.1 <br />: The City should require development thatencourages and supports water conservation <br />measures. <br />Policy HS-2.2 <br />:Offer financial incentives to property owners who install water-efficient devices and <br />technologies. <br />Policy HS-2.3 <br />:The City should encourage landscapeapproaches that are appropriateto the climate of <br />Louisville and aremindful of future climate change impacts. <br />PrincipleHS-3: The City should supportconservation efforts through training and education programs <br />for citizens and property owners. <br />PolicyHS-3.1 <br />Education and trainingmeasures should address water conservation, efficiency, and behavioral <br />changeswhich lead to enhanced awareness and approaches to the protection or resources and wise water <br />use. <br />Policy HS-3.2 <br />Awareness campaigns should be offered which provide informationon state of the art <br />equipment and technologieswhich enable water conservation and wise water use. <br />Policy HS-3.3 <br />Free water audits should be offered seasonally. <br />Page 1of 2 <br /> <br />
