Memorandum
To: Historical Commission
From: Bridget Bacon, Museum Coordinator
Date: November 27, 2012
Re: Museum Coordinator’s Report
Teachers at Louisville Elementary organized a charette on the topic of Louisville’s
purchase of the Grain Elevator for the three fourth grade classes. This civics project had
the students looking at the different perspectives and considerations that go into the
process by which a city makes a decision. Members of the City’s Planning Department,
Richard Wheeler, and I made presentations about the Louisville Grain Elevator to the
students at their school, then they developed their arguments as small groups and made
th
their presentations in Council Chambers on November 14. Dan Mellish participated as
one of the reviewers of the presentations. Each of the students received a kit to make a
grain elevator model, thanks to the funding of the kits by the Historical Commission, and
the students, parents, and teachers were most appreciative of this.
Museum volunteers Mary Kay Knorr and Kate Gerard represented the Museum at the
October meeting of the Assn. of Northern Front Range Museums, held at History
Colorado.
The City has donated $1000 to the Historical Commission from the proceeds of the Coal
Creek Crossing event during the Fall Festival.
The next Brown Bag presentation and discussion will be a follow-up to the lead article of
the most recent Louisville Historian, with the topic of “Louisville’s English Roots.”
(Thursday, December 6, noon to 1:00 at the Louisville Public Library).
The Louisville City Council’s 2013 study session with the Historical Commission has been
tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
Museum Visitors Report (these statistics represent visits to the Museum itself, and not
inquiries that come in by email or phone): October visitors: 366; YTD 2178. The year to date
number represents an increase of 66% over the same period in 2011.
