City Council
Study Session Summary
May 10, 2005
trailer, or driven. It is designed to be used for travel, hauling or recreational
purposes, and includes:
· A motor home, travel trailer, fifth wheel trailer, tent trailer, truck camper,
boat, canoe, kayak, snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle, jet ski, or other similar
vehicle; or
. A trailer designed to haul or carry equipment, materials or vehicles,
including an item listed above.

Front Yard Parking
. A recreational vehicle/trailer may be parked in the front yard in a legal
front yard parking stall. A legal front yard parking stall is a driveway that
leads to an attached garage, or that leads to a detached garage, carport
or parking pad located in the side or rear yard. The parking spot must be
improved as a concrete or paved pad, or an area covered with rock, gravel
or pavers and maintained to be free of weeds and grass.
. Recreational vehicles must be parked so that they extend to a distance no
closer than 6 (six) feet from the inside edge of the sidewalk, or of the
inside edge of the curb where there is no sidewalk.
. The parking of any vehicle, including a recreational vehicle or trailer, on
the lawn or any other area of the front yard is prohibited.

Side and Rear Yard Parking
. Licensed vehicles may be parked in the side and/or rear yard, on an
improved parking area such as a concrete or paved pad, or an area
covered with rock, gravel or pavers and maintained to be free of weeds
and grass.

Other considerations
These are limitations/restrictions that could be incorporated, and are found in
other ordinances.
. A recreational vehicle that meets the above definition, but that is longer
than forty (40) feet total length from bumper to end of hitch, may not be
parked on a residential lot.
. A maximum of two (2) recreational vehicles are permitted on each lot.
. Any vehicle parked on a residential lot must be maintained in operable
condition and in good repair.

The current ordinance included screening requirements. It is recommended that
those requirements be eliminated.

Three sections of the Louisville Municipal Code regarding on-street parking were
discussed. Staff recommends retaining the restrictions currently contained in the
Louisville Municipal Code.
