Louisville City Council Meeting <br />April 17, 2001 <br />Page 8 <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENTS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> <br />Keany reported on a police situation that was brought to his attention. He stated that <br />Louisville police officers encountered two Hispanic individuals who did not speak <br />English. He stated that of the three police officers on the scene, none spoke Spanish. He <br />stated that the police officers believe there should be a Spanish-speaking interpreter <br />available on every shift. Keany suggested that Staff investigate creating a volunteer list <br />of citizens who are bilingual and could be called in similar situations to interpret for the <br />police officers. He noted that the list should include Spanish and as many other foreign <br />language interpreters as are available. <br /> <br />Sisk stated that he attended the Senior Board Meeting, and reported that they have <br />planned an ice cream social at Memory Square Park for Wednesday, July 18, 2001. <br /> <br /> ADJOURNMENT <br /> <br />MOTION: Howard moved that Council adjourn (8:00 p.m.) seconded by Brown.
