City Council
Study Session Summary
October 23, 2012
Page 5of7
➢ Need to get the Jordinelli House open and there is a strong need for a
storage building to house the collection between the Jacoe Store and the
Tomeo House. The proposed building would be designed to look like the
original historic building that was on the site and to maintain the character
of downtown. If a separate foundation is formed, the focus for the
foundation would be to help raise the necessary funds to construct the
new building.
Comments:
• Mayor Muckle said "great work, and great presentation."
• Councilmember Loo asked what the estimated cost would be to build the
building. Mellish indicated that an estimate would be $500,000.
• Councilmember Dalton said he applauds the initiative to start a foundation.
• Mellish indicated they would want to partner with the City and would seek
Council's approval and the City would need to fund the operating costs.
• Councilmember Loo asked if HPF funds could be used for the project.
• Councilmember Yarnell said that it is her understanding that the Historical
Commission could receive grant funding from the HPF, but not as a
straight revenue source.
• Councilmember Loo thinks that the prospect of a local foundation raising
all $500,000 is unrealistic.
• Mayor Muckle asked Staff to look into funding.
• Councilmember Keany encouraged the museum to make the oral histories
available on the Library website. Bridget indicated that is a future goal.
• Councilmember Keany also reminded the Commission that if a foundation
is formed only up to two Commission members could attend board
meetings, otherwise if more attend, then it's considered a public meeting.
• Councilmember Sackett said the citizens of Louisville like the City's
heritage. It's Council's job to raise this one to a higher priority. City needs
to contribute to improve standing and do more for the cause.
• Bridget indicated 200 elementary school students are visiting the museum
this month. Approximately 15% of visitors are students, and overall one -
third of the visitors live in Louisville.
Update /Discussion — Zero Waste Resolution
Mark Persichetti of the Louisville Sustainability Advisory Board spoke to Council
about the Board's desire to get Council support for adopting the Boulder County
Zero Waste Action Plan. Discussion followed and a summary of comments
below:
Councilmember Loo expressed her concerns with the plan and her lack of
support.
