City Council <br />Study Session Summary <br />October 23, 2012 <br />Page 6of7 <br />Councilmember Dalton also was not supportive of adopting the entire plan, <br />thought the City would be better served for the Board to pick out those items <br />within the plan that the City could support at low or no cost to the City and its <br />residents. <br />Mayor Muckle stated that Zero Waste is an important goal and he would like to <br />support a plan that would show a possible path towards this goal. <br />Councilmember Sackett wants to strive to provide the best environment and <br />asked for businesses to weigh -in on the plan. <br />Councilmember Jasiak asked about the City's Zero Waste events and what <br />feedback has there been? Mark said that Eco Cycle has provided staffing a Zero <br />Waste event in the past. People need to be educated where to dispose of <br />different items. Sustainability Advisory Board is not interested in any bans. <br />Lisa Friend, Boulder County Sustainability Planner suggested the City adopt the <br />Plan and then pick and chose what to focus on. <br />City Manager Fleming recommended this item be scheduled at a future Council <br />meeting as a Discussion item. <br />Councilmember Yarnell suggested first presenting the information to other <br />groups, such as the DBA and BRAD and coming to Council with the feedback. <br />Councilmember Jasiak, liaison to the LSAB Board, requested a broader <br />discussion, but Councilmember Dalton insisted it be at a regular meeting where <br />decisions could be made. <br />Councilmember Loo felt the Plan was long and complex and doubts the Council <br />could move through all of it during a Council meeting. <br />Mayor Muckle asked staff to figure out how to bring this item to Council. <br />Update /Discussion — UC Denver Energy Assessment <br />Mary Ann Heaney led off the discussion in support of the City paying for the <br />energy audit. She indicated that all the groups she contacted who had <br />participated had positive feedback. Most groups felt they got a return on their <br />investment within two years. Discussion followed and a summary of comments <br />below: <br />• Councilmember Dalton was concerned about after the study is complete, <br />what does the City do then? Mary Ann suggested a public meeting to <br />review the results. <br />• Councilmember Loo was concerned about the estimate for how much staff <br />time would be needed by participating. <br />
