CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />AGENDA ITEM ___ <br />SUBJECT: SALES TAX REPORTS FOR THE MONTH ENDED DECEMBER <br />31, 2012 <br />DATE:FEBRUARY 18, 2013 <br />PRESENTED BY: PENNEY BOLTE, FINANCE DEPARTMENT <br />SUMMARY: <br />Attached are the monthly revenue reports for sales tax, lodging tax, auto use tax, <br />consumer use tax and building use tax for the month ending December 31, 2012. Also <br />included are monthly and quarterly reports on sales tax revenue by area and by <br />industry, the year-end revenue by area graphs for restaurants, and historical revenue. <br />The total for all revenues ended 2012 up 13.4% YTD over 2011. <br />The month of December 2012 ended with sales tax revenue up 2.6% over that of <br />December 2011. YTD revenue for 2012 ended 7.1% above 2011 and 3.5% above <br />budget for the year. <br />Sales tax revenue for the top 50 vendors increased a strong 7.9% for the month of <br />December 2012, and ended the year 2.9% above 2011. 2012 recognized gains in the <br />following sectors; Grocery (8.7%), Hotels (9.8%), Home Improvement (9.1%) and <br />Restaurants (5.4%). The declining sectors for 2012 included; General Merchandise <br />(-3.3%), Technology (-47.5%) and Telecom/Utilities (-3.6%). <br />Lodging tax revenue for December 2012 decreased 7.2% from December 2011 but <br />YTD revenues increased 9% over 2011 and ended 1.9% above budget. <br />Auto use tax revenue for December 2012 increased a strong 31.8% over December <br />2011 with 2012 revenues ending 8.4% above 2011 and 5.6% above budget. <br />Building use tax revenue for December 2012 increased 6.3% from December 2011 with <br />YTD revenues for 2012 ending 16.2% over 2011 revenues and 27.7% above budget. <br />Consumer use tax revenue for December 2012 increased 45.6% over December 2011 <br />with YTD revenues for 2012 ending 116.2% over 2011. Consumer use tax collections <br />through December were $1,202,143, which is 105.9% above budget. <br />The monthly and quarterly sales tax revenue by area reports represent the YTD retail <br />health of various sections of the City.
