<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />AGENDA ITEM II <br />SUBJECT: UPDATE – HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> <br />DATE: FEBRUARY 26, 2013 <br /> <br />PRESENTED BY: HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION <br /> <br /> <br />SUMMARY: <br />The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is a seven member quasi-judicial board <br />that hears and decides requests for demolition on structures 50 years or older. The <br />Commission also advises the City Council on landmark requests, Historic Preservation <br />Fund (HPF) grant requests, and certificates of appropriateness for modifications to <br />landmarked structures. <br /> <br />BOARD MEMBERS: <br />The current board members are: Peter Stewart, chair; Aquiles La Grave, vice-chair; <br />Jessica Fasick; Lynda Haley; Mike Koertje; Heather Lewis; and Kirk Watson. All of the <br />positions on the HPC are currently full. <br /> <br />2012 SUMMARY: <br />1. Landmark & District Designation <br />Five properties and no districts were landmarked in 2012 (see attachment 1). <br /> <br />2. Design Review <br />The architects on the HPC continued to offer design assistance to a number of <br />properties in 2012 to help owners sensitively preserve their structures while <br />making additions or other changes. <br /> <br />3. Demolition Review <br />HPC conducted demolition review on 21 properties in 2012. Grants <br />HPC disbursed $38,304.20 in residential preservation/restoration grants out of <br />the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) in 2012. HPF monies totaling $956,706 <br />were also used for the purchase of the grain elevator. See attachment 4 for <br />more details. <br /> <br />2
