Open Space Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />Feb. 12, 2013 <br />Page 2 of 4 <br /> <br />location, etc. and will become supporting documentation for Open Space Zoning <br />process. <br /> Staff is working to get cost estimates for spring and fall noxious weed control. <br /> Staff has reviewed the most recent submittal for the development at North End. If <br />all stays on schedule, the dam may be constructed and seeded in the fall. <br /> Staff met with the Planning Department to discuss the way finding program. The <br />Planning Department also has way-finding funding in its budget. Planning’s <br />funding is intended for way-finding in and around the McCaslin Blvd. area. <br />Planning and Parks & Recreation staff will work together to coordinate their way- <br />finding efforts. Planning will likely start their project efforts in June. <br /> The City Service Facility layout is being reviewed. <br /> Russian thistle tumbleweeds are being regularly removed from Davidson Mesa. <br /> Boulder County Youth Corps has been approved for work in Louisville this year. <br />The youth will be working on projects in Louisville from June 11 to July 31. The <br />youth Corps will work on both Parks and Open Space Projects. Open Space <br />projects will likely include mechanical weed control, prairie dog barrier <br />installation, construction of floating island and other Open Space maintenance <br />projects. <br /> Owls are successfully nesting. <br /> A public presentation on raptors will occur on Feb. 21 from 7p-8p at the Library. <br />Volunteer training for the Raptor Monitoring Program will be on Feb. 27 from 7-8. <br /> The underpass is moving forward, and the City is working towards the final <br />design. They are currently looking for the location of the water line, so they will <br />be potholing in the parking lot to locate it. <br /> The Geology of Boulder County program that was held in January was well <br />attended (50 individuals). <br /> The Open Space website has been updated with education programs planned <br />between now and March. <br /> Fishing Frenzy program and stocking permit has been submitted. April 19th is the <br />tentative date. Please contact Ember if you would like to volunteer. <br /> Staff is working on developing “how-to” procedures for open space. <br /> Seasonal Employment advertisement is out. That position will start April 8. <br /> A new memorial bench will be placed along the new Davidson Mesa ridgeline <br />trail, and a new plaque will go out on a bench at Harper Lake. <br /> <br />VI. Board Updates <br /> Mike noted that the social trails at North have become much worse than he has <br />seen in the past. He noted erosion concerns. <br /> Emily reported that Council is considering the idea of creating an advisory board <br />that is focused on parks and/or recreation services. <br />o Joe noted that OSAB has mentioned the need for an advisory board to <br />address trails. OSAB generally has dealt with trail-related issues in the <br />past, but some of the trails do not cross open space and so, the issue <br />does not necessarily fit within the purview of OSAB. <br />3
