Historical Commission
Minutes
Feb. 20, 2013
f. From Arlene Leggett, 1999 Louisville Senior Center (LSC) booklet
celebrating the 20th anniversary of the LSC.
g. From Grace Dionigi, maps, articles and a booklet relating to Louisville
history.
h. From Bruce Joss, papers relating to Clark family history from the estate of
Nora Clark.
2. Bridget asked for the Commission’s advice on a donation that has been offered. The
Commission advised Bridget to not pursue the donation of an item from the family of
the person who ran the Craft Cupboard in 1980 at 909 Main St., due to storage issues.
3. Bridget reported that the Chamber of Commerce directory that was just distributed
included many photos from the Museum collection. She also shared a brochure from
Andrew Williams, LHC member, regarding a new Tuesday evening event for summer
called “Buona Sera.” This weekly event will feature opportunities for business
networking, performances, and an open-air market.
5. Bob Piccone, a lifetime member of the Museum, contacted Bridget Bacon and sent a
generous donation to make up for years when he wasn’t sending in membership
renewal dues.
6. Bridget stated that Meredyth Muth let her know that the Commission might not be
able to include membership information in the March-April utility bills because the
City may need to include information about drought policies and procedures instead.
More information will be forthcoming.
7. Wayne Lee reported to Bridget Bacon that he has almost sold all of his copies of his
book Louisville: At Home in a Small Town. Bridget stated that the Commission and
Museum still have the book in stock, however.
C. Report from the Director of Library and Museum Services:
None
D. Report from City Council Liaison:
Jay Keany reminded the Commission that the City
Council wants the LHC and other boards and commissions to submit goals and 5-year capital
st
projects for the 2014 budget process by March 1. Bridget reported that Beth Barrett and Dan
Mellish have indicated that they will work on this. Commission members voiced their views
about needs for additional staffing at the Museum as well as needs for a new building with
storage space to preserve the collection and to make it possible for the Jordinelli House to be
shown to visitors. Lynn Koglin stated that he will summarize the suggestions for Dan Mellish.
Jay Keany also reported on his participation in the “Saving Places” conference sponsored by
Colorado Preservation Inc. The topic was developing emergency response plans in the case of
disasters. Bridget reported on the measures in place at the Museum, many of which she said
followed her attendance at a two-day workshop on emergency preparedness a few years ago.
E.
