Louisville Historical Commission
Subcommittee Meeting Minutes
February 15, 2013
Board Room, Louisville Public Library
951 Spruce Street
10:30 AM
Commission Members Present: Lynn Koglin and Gladys Levis-Pilz. Former Commission
member Jennifer Strand was also present.
Also Present: Beth Barrett, Director of Library & Museum Services, and Bridget Bacon,
Museum Coordinator
The attendees met regarding the Historical Commission’s decision in April to pursue the
creation of a separate foundation. At a past subcommittee meeting, the subcommittee
members signed up to collect information about specific other city museum foundations in the
area and how they operate.
This subcommittee will be making recommendations for setting up the separate organization.
At this meeting, the attendees followed up on last month’s subcommittee meeting by
continuing to discuss possible provisions for the bylaws of the foundation board.
The attendees also considered whether to work towards a deadline, based on the legal and
logistical steps that still need to be accomplished. In connection with figuring out the timeline,
Bridget stated that she will soon write to the city attorney regarding some of the necessary
steps relating to filings with the state and the IRS and regarding the drafting of amended
bylaws for the Historical Commission, which will be needed in addition to foundation bylaws.
The attendees also discussed other steps in the process towards creating a separate
foundation.
Indirectly related to the creation of a foundation, subcommittee members expressed that they
would like to promote the idea of Louisville citizens making a bequest in their wills/estate plans
for the Museum.
th
The group decided to next meet on Friday, March 15 at 10:30 AM. The attendees plan to
continue to discuss bylaws provisions and how they would like to see the foundation board
structured, as well as other steps in the process.
City of Louisville
Louisville Historical Museum
749 Main Street Louisville CO 80027
303-665-9048 (phone) 303-335-4550 (fax) www.louisvilleco.gov
