The Planning and Building Safety Department is in the process of finishing <br />document after gathering citizen input and Boards/Commissions Comments. <br />The document will be presented to the Louisville City Council on April 2, 2013 for <br />review and discussion and then returned to City Council for final approval on <br />April 16, 2013. <br />A Planning Division representative will be on hand during the meeting to lead a <br />review of the Energy Section with the BC BOA. The complete Energy Section is <br />listed below. The highlighted text is pertinent to the BC BOA. <br />2012 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE <br />ENERGY (E) <br />The City of Louisville recognizes that protection and conservation of its local and <br />regional environmental resources is important to city residents. Residential and <br />commercial buildings account for nearly half of the electricity and natural gas <br />consumed in Colorado. Building codes and policy initiatives play a critical role in <br />ensuring that energy efficiency technologies are supported in the marketplace, <br />and provide multiple benefits to homeowners, renters, building owners and <br />tenants, and society at large through reduced energy demand, energy cost <br />savings, and reduced carbon emissions energy cost savings. Policies and <br />procedures should be examined to lessen energy consumption, waste <br />generation, water, air, and light pollution impacts to our community. The City <br />should also strive to promote wise use of energy resources in its own municipal <br />operations. <br />Principle E-1. The City should efficiently use its energy resources and <br />continually strive to conserve energy where practical. <br /> The City should pursue cost effective measures to reduce its <br />Policy E-1.1: <br />dependency on non-renewable energy sources by pursuing the use of renewable <br />energy sources for residents and businesses as well as for its municipal <br />operations. <br /> The City should encourage building designs that maximize the use <br />Policy E-1.2: <br />of natural light and thus diminish the need for energy consuming supplemental <br />lighting. <br />The City should encourage the use of energy-efficient lighting, <br />Policy E-1.3: <br />appliances, and other devices in new development, redevelopment and in <br />municipal operations. <br />The City should encourage the use of landscaping that assists <br />Policy E-1.4: <br />energy savings by the use of buffers and admittance of solar energy in the winter <br />and shade in the summer. <br />
