Golf Course Advisory Board Minutes
March 18 2013
Item IV. Approval of Meeting Minutes. The minutes from the 1/14/2013
meeting were unanimously approved as written. Tom Deany proposed. Lisa
Norgard seconded.

Item V. Staff Update.
a. Rick Phelps gave a comprehensive report on the bunker renovation
project. Phelps Golf Design has been awarded the contract to design and
supervise the work for the sum of $11,900. The final design plan will be
reviewed at the April GCAB meeting and will be put out for bids at the end
of April. After discussion, it was agreed that the work would be done in
the fall (nominal start date around Sep 16th) for less disruption to play in
the peak season, less damage to fairways from construction vehicles and
better growing conditions for new sod. 12 bunkers are included in the
plan unless bids come in under budget allowing additional bunkers to be
tackled (expect $6.5K to $9K per bunker.) Given golfer frustration with
progress on the bunkers, we need to ensure that full publicity be given to
the plan by postings at the Clubhouse, Rec. Center and at the Clubhouse
Open House. Phelps showed the board several concepts for the bunkers
including using sod as a liner (lower cost and less risk of damage from
machine raking than plastic liner.) Bunker contours will be optimized for
the Colorado drought and for sand retention. The work should take 6
weeks in total with demo, contour and completion taking 3 weeks per
bunker. An additional 4 weeks should be allowed for the sod to root so
each bunker will be treated as GUR for a total of 7 weeks. Phelps noted
that Public Course bunkers typically need full renovation every 15 years
b. Clubhouse Renovation: work is approximately 50% complete despite a
number of problems found that require extra work and should still be
complete on time (end of April) and within the budget contingency cost.
So far, 12 change orders have been approved. Issues include: problems
with removing the carpet glue from the dining room floor requiring a
specialist machine to be brought in, poor soil strength at the front
entrance requiring larger caissons and the roof drain at the NW corner is
irredeemably plugged, is being capped off and the roof re-sloped to use
an alternative drain. Minor interior rot and significant exterior rot is being
corrected. WGP is working with the City to fund additional flat-screen TV
wiring and improved furniture.
c. Joe Stevens will work with the City Manager to find a date in mid-May to
formally open the renovated Clubhouse that works with the City Council
schedule.
d. The Board asked Joe to verify with City Staff that the up-to-date GPS data
on the irrigation system has been received from WGP and that the City
GIS will be updated with this information with due priority.
e. Signs have been created with directions to the Golf Course and will be
installed at the Dillon Road intersections with McCaslin and 96th Street.
