<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />SUBJECT: UPDATE – YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD <br /> <br />DATE: APRIL 9, 2013 PAGE 2 OF 4 <br /> <br />OCTOBER: <br />• October 4, 2012 – Joi Wu was elected as Chairperson, Eliza Miller was elected <br />as Vice-Chair and David Andrews was elected as Secretary. <br />• Brainstormed goals for the upcoming term. Decided to focus on selling Dear <br />Louisville books from last year and to assist with a decorating project for the <br />library’s teen area, and a bicycle safety campaign. <br />• October 28, 2012- Worked with Louisville Rec Center at Spooktacular Critters <br />event. <br />• October 29, 2012 – Members volunteered at the Arapahoe YMCA Halloween <br />event. <br /> <br />NOVEMBER: <br />• November 3, 2012- The YAB continued their work planning ways to sell the <br />Dear Louisville books, create a bicycle safety campaign and the decorating <br />direction (painting, mural, decals?) for The Loft’s Listening Room. Throughout <br />the year, YAB members are expected to attend other city board and <br />commission meetings to represent the youth of Louisville. This month, Kaylix <br />attended the Open Space Advisory Board meeting and Eliza attended Open <br />Government training and spoke to us about it. <br />• November 2012 - Members participated in a Community Food Share Food <br />Drive at King Soopers and collected MANY carts full of food for the local <br />community. <br /> <br />DECEMBER: <br />• December 6, 2012- This month Bonnie, Kate and Karen reported about <br />attending a Cultural Council meeting, David really enjoyed his time at a lengthy <br />Planning Commission meeting, and Brooke reported about current topics being <br />discussed at a City Council meeting. <br />• December 7, 2012- Members marched in the Louisville Parade of Lights to <br />advertise the YAB, be seen by a wide variety of people and hand out postcards <br />to promote the Dear Louisville project. <br />• December 14, 2012- Two YAB members (Katie and Bonnie) worked with the <br />Cultural Council in order to set up a table to sell the dear Louisville books at a <br />cello quartet musical event in the Arts Center. <br />• December 19, 2012- YAB members helped with the Louisville Recreation <br />Center’s Dessert and Story with Santa event at the Rec. Center. <br /> <br />JANUARY: <br />• January 3, 2013- Work continued on selling the Dear Louisville books with a <br />sale date set up at the Winter Skate ice skating rink. The Bicycle Safety <br />subcommittee began meeting to come up with a brochure and slogan. Zane <br />reported back from an Open Space Advisory Board meeting. <br /> <br />3
