<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMUNICATION <br />SUBJECT: UPDATE – YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD <br /> <br />DATE: APRIL 9, 2013 PAGE 3 OF 4 <br /> <br />FEBRUARY: <br />• February 7, 2013- Lynn Wooten, American Cancer Society, attended the YAB <br />meeting and asked for help selling flowers for Daffodil Days, a fund raiser for <br />the American Cancer Society. Joi and Eliza spoke about a brief City Council <br />meeting they attended. <br />• February 9, 2013- YAB members assisted with the Louisville Recreation <br />Center’s Royal Ball, an event held at the Louisville Center for the Arts. <br /> <br />MARCH: <br />• March 7, 2013- The Bicycle Safety committee discussed the new logo, theme <br />and brochure drafts for the “Ride and Drive With Care” information campaign. <br />Karen will write an article about this safety campaign to be published in <br />newspapers and newsletters throughout the community. YAB members decided <br />on which decals to be used to decorate the Loft Listening Room. Karen gave <br />her observations after attending a Planning Commission meeting. <br />• March 9, 2013- Members helped with Daffodil Days event at the Recreation <br />Center. <br />• March 14, 2013- Members volunteered at the St. Patrick’s Day dinner for <br />seniors at the Recreation & Senior Center <br /> <br />APRIL: <br />• YAB members will attend the CD2 Youth Community Awareness Summit <br />hosted by Congressman Jared Polis in Boulder, CO on April 27th, 2013. <br />• YAB members will meet with City Council on April 9th, 2013. <br />• The “Ride and Drive with Care” safety campaign brochures will be distributed <br />throughout the community, and articles will be submitted to publications. <br />• Possible volunteer event at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen? <br /> <br />FUTURE GOALS: <br />• Promote public awareness of YAB <br />• Continue to provide volunteer opportunities for Louisville Youth <br />• Encourage youth to voice their opinions regarding the City of Louisville <br />• Continue to network with and support other boards and departments within the <br />city of Louisville (City Council, Parks & Rec., Planning, Cultural Council, Library, <br />etc.) <br />• Advise city government, when possible, on issues affecting the youth within our <br />community <br />• Recruit a diverse group of new members for the next school year to full openings. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />4
