City Council <br /> Study Session Summary <br /> April 23, 2013 <br /> Page 2 of 5 <br /> Update/Discussion — Horticulture and Forestry Advisory Board (HFAB) <br /> Chris Lichty, Supervisor of Forestry and Horticulture introduced Board <br /> Chair Mike Frontczak who presented on behalf of the board. Mike <br /> thanked the Mayor for addressing the watering restrictions and reported <br /> that HFAB can help educate people on watering issues. Mike reported the <br /> following: accomplishments of HFAB including: <br /> HFAB 2012 Accomplishments: <br /> • Arbor Day -Chris reported, as a side note that due to inclement <br /> weather, Arbor Day planting was again being rescheduled. <br /> • Educational Speakers — provided a speaker who spoke on <br /> starting plants from seed. It was a very well attended event. The <br /> goal is to provide one to two speakers per year. <br /> • Pergola Improvement—The Pergola in the Arboretum now has <br /> electricity. A floor and toilets are on the wish list. The goal is to <br /> make it a rentable venue. They also plan to put in a landscape plan <br /> using low water turf. There is not date established for finishing <br /> landscape. The Board see the entire corner where the Police <br /> Department, Arboretum, Rec Center are as being a City focal point. <br /> Mike stated that we are guardians of the Arboretum for future <br /> generations. <br /> • New fitness stations at Arboretum - It has been 30 years since <br /> new equipment was bought. The new equipment is very state of <br /> the art! <br /> • Landscape Plan Review <br /> • Pergola Improvement—Texas Hybrid Bluegrass <br /> • Landscape plan for McCaslin/Washington St. underpass is <br /> under discussion <br /> • Planting Plan for North End Phase II Development <br /> • 2012 Comprehensive Plan <br /> • Open Space Native Plant List— Mike mentioned that Teresa <br /> gets credit for working with Ember to review plan. <br /> • Steel Ranch South Landscape Review is on-going. <br /> • Signage— HFAB would like better signage to identify the <br /> Arboretum and better gateway signage. Development will <br /> carry uniformity of Highway 42. HFAB would like signage to <br /> help define City limits. <br /> HFAB 2013 goals: <br /> • Ribbon Cutting Event for Arboretum <br /> • Arbor Day Event at Louisville Elementary School <br /> • Educational Events <br /> • Landscape Review (ongoing) <br /> • And support of the following projects: <br />
