City Council
Study Session Summary
April 23, 2013
• Restroom at Arboretum
• Renovation of Xeric Demonstration Garden and creating a
Memory Walk
Teresa reported that the Xeric Demonstration Garden has not been
maintained. HFAB is considering removing signs that incorrectly identify
plants to simplify the garden. The Memory walk would be a fundraiser
where citizens can purchase engraved bricks for walkway.
At the conclusion of the presentation, Mayor Muckle asked about the
Memory Walk. Teresa reported that the project isn't ready to be launched
so HFAB is not ready to sell the bricks; other projects are taking a higher
priority.
Council Member Jasiak asked if HFAB tips could be streamed on Channel
8 and members thought that was a good idea. Mike concluded by saying
HFAB hopes Council will continue to encourage citizen water
management.
Mayor Muckle asked if HFAB is going to be a Parks Advisory Board.
Councilman Keany voiced that there is a need for an advocate for Parks;
do we need more parks? Where? Questions that need to be addressed
are: is the City going to form a Parks Board and would it be part of HFAB?
Does HFAB agree it is necessary?
Update/Discussion —Open Space Advisory Board (OSAB)
Ember Brignull, Open Space Manager, introduced OSAB Board members. Tom
Davinroy presented on behalf of OSAB:
OSAB 2012 Accomplishments:
• Educate Stakeholders about the Conservation Trust - Open Space and
Parks Fund —they developed posters and collaborated with City of
Lafayette to write letters to the Boulder Daily Camera
• Enhance Education and Outreach Community Programs—Tom reported
that the Board is motivated by Community Outreach and held many
successful events in 2012. This effort included:
• Brainstormed Education and Volunteer Opportunities
• Implemented the Geocache Education Program at Davidson Mesa
• Posted the "Fans of Louisville Open Space" Facebook Page
• Distributed Educational Information to HOAs and Businesses
• Reviewed the Conservation Trust—Open Space and Parks Fund
• Submitted Questions for the 2012 Louisville Citizen Survey
• Attended Ribbon Cutting events: CTC Trail and Aquarius Trailhead
• Attended Joint Board Meetings: Lafayette and all County
• Provided a Monthly Forum to receive citizen input
