Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
May 8, 2013

 Noxious Weed Identification Program is scheduled for May 15th from 6:30 –
7:30 pm at Aquarius Open Space.
 The seasonal position has been re-posted, as the prior applicant took another
job.
 There are 3 new raptor nest sites.
 The Open Space Division had received reports of an aggressive nesting
goose at Harper Lake. The trail had been temporarily closed. The situation
has been resolved, and the trail has been reopened.
 The new fencing project at Harper Lake is in progress, and the project is
nearing completion.
 Last night, City Council approved a partial release of the Conservation
Easement on Scriffiny Open Space.
o Parcel A – near the RTD station – will be transferred to the Colorado
Department of Transportation (CDOT). A sliver of the Damyanovich
property and a sliver of the Davidson Mesa Open Space will also be
transferred to CDOT. The sale price is approximately $86,000.
o Payment for these parcels will go back in to the Conservation Trust
Fund.
o At the end of Dyer Rd. on the southeast corner of Damyanovich Open
Space CDOT has also proposed using the land as a staging area for
the US36 Managed Lane/Bus Rapid Transit Project. In exchange for
use of the land, Staff intends to ask that a trailhead be built to serve
Damyanovich and Davidson Mesa.
 Permanent coyote signs are placed on Open Space properties where there
has been a higher occurrence of coyote reports.
 Poo Free Parks – Staff met with the people from Poo Free Parks. The
program is no longer free, but it is affordable. Joe is considering doing a pilot
project for the parks. Joe has asked OSAB if we would be interested in
including Open Space locations in the program.
o OSAB had some questions about whether we should have advertising
on Open Space, what the ads would look like, the cost (cost savings),
the experiences of other municipalities, and the effectiveness of the
program.

VI. Board Updates
 Study Session with City Council:
o Tom said that City Council wants OSAB to assist in the development of
a coyote management plan. City Council has identified this as a high
priority.
o Helen reported that the City Council was happy with our education
efforts, and they are encouraging additional work in that area.
 Helen came across an organization (foundation) that was developing a public
/ private partnership to create a dog park. It is an interesting idea that may be
of interest to dog owners in Louisville.
3
