Projects include replacing the prairie dog
fencing barrier on Daughenbaugh Open Space, repairing fencing on Gateway
Open Space, mechanical weed control on select Open Space properties, and
trash removal.
The Open Space Division has received reports of rattlesnakes observed on
both North and Davidson Mesa Open Spaces.
The Open Space Division has also received a report of a potential mountain
lion sighting on Dutch Creek Open Space.
Herbicide spraying is scheduled to begin next week for Davidson Mesa and
Aquarius Open Spaces. Dutch Creek and Aquarius Open Spaces have been
sprayed in the previous weeks.
Work is scheduled to begin sometime in June or July for the repair of “ice
corner” on North Open Space.
Harlan Vitoff, the new Open Space seasonal, started working on May 29th.
A citizen called the Open Space Division to report that there is cactus in the
Davidson Mesa Dog Off-leash area.
The Noxious Weed Identification Training class was held on Wednesday, May
22nd. Seven people attended the training.

a. Dog Waste Management
The Parks and Recreation Department has been considering using the Poo
Free Parks program on Parks and Open Spaces. Poo Free Parks provides
dog waste stations with poop bags that are checked and refilled on a weekly
basis.
Poo Free Parks dog waste stations have advertising on the sign.
The Parks and Recreation Department presented to City Council to see if the
City’s current policy will allow for advertising within the City. City Council
advised that advertising is legal but should be clarified in the City Code.
o Cherry Creek Open Space uses the program and has had positive
results.
o The City currently has one employee that spends an entire day picking
up and restocking the current dog bag dispensers.
The Open Space Advisory Board (OSAB) expressed concerns over the
advertisements that would be displayed at the dog waste station.

b. McCaslin/Washington Underpass
Diana Trettin, CIP Manager for the City presented a Power Point presentation
on the McCaslin/Washington Underpass plans. The start date for the
underpass construction is scheduled to begin sometime this summer. The
City is requesting 2 different bids for the project with the decision made by
City Council’s approval.
o Original bid specifications: completion of the project in 9-10 months
while keeping one lane open on McCaslin Boulevard during
3
