City Council <br /> Study Session Summary <br /> May 14,2013 <br /> Page 2 of 2 <br /> Public Comments: <br /> • Food trucks next to brick and mortar restaurants will affect them outright <br /> • What about private parties where Food Trucks are contracted? <br /> • Food trucks are predatory <br /> • There are many misconceptions about Food Trucks and how they work <br /> with the Community. <br /> Update/Discussion — Boulder Valley School District Trip Tracker Proposal <br /> Council Member Dalton gave a background on the project and how it came <br /> about: People trying to solve traffic issue at schools. Trip Tracker attempts to <br /> relieve some traffic. <br /> Peter Hurst from Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) presented the program. <br /> His goal is to make school zones safe. Students receive "Trip Tracker dollars' as <br /> a reward for car-pooling, walking, biking or riding the bus to school. "Dollars" are <br /> spent like real money at one of the 20 participating businesses. Benefit to <br /> participating businesses is goodwill, new customers and more real dollars spent. <br /> Council Member Dalton asked how we measure effectiveness. Peter has <br /> performed surveys where 2/3 of parents say they have markedly reduced the <br /> number of trips to school. He said he has no hard data. There was discussion <br /> on how to attain hard data. Council expressed concerns and support of the <br /> program. <br /> Mayor Muckle said that Trip Tracker addresses a specific issue in Louisville <br /> Troy stated that Safe Routes to school will be a component of the Neighborhood <br /> Plans. <br /> City Manager's Report: <br /> • Asked Council to confirm the Budget Retreat date. It was suggested <br /> the date be moved from June 25th to June 27th <br /> • Anticipated lack of quorum at the July 23rd and August 13th Study <br /> Sessions was discussed and will be considered at a future City Council <br /> meeting. <br /> • It was suggested City Council meet with neighboring municipalities. <br /> Superior and/or Lafayette were suggested. <br /> • There is continuing discussion about the Arts building and how it is to <br /> be used.
