City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />July 2, 2013 <br />Page 3 of 25 <br />Parks and Recreation Director Steven confirmed the Heritage Park playground is roped <br />off because of sand wasps. He noted the City does not use any herbicides, but it will <br />take at least ten days to get rid of the wasps. Relative to the noise complaint created by <br />City crews on the weekend, he would make some adjustments to the schedule to <br />accommodate the residents. <br />REGULAR BUSINESS <br />RECOGNITION OF CLAIRE VICTOR, CML ESSAY CONTEST WINNER <br />The Mayor and City Council recognized Claire Victor, 8th grade student at Louisville <br />Middle School. Colorado Municipal League held an "If I Were Mayor" Essay Contest <br />and Claire's essay was chosen as the best out of the 730 essays submitted. <br />Claire Victor read her award winning essay for the City Council, staff and members of <br />the public. <br />Mayor Muckle explained the City is currently working on the 2014 budget, which <br />provides for many civic events and noted the City is environmentally conscious and <br />provides zero waste events and a community garden. The City surveys citizens every <br />two years to determine the needs of the community. He noted the City Council contact <br />information, as well as the City staff and Directors are on the City's Web Page, should <br />Claire or anyone member of the public need to contact them. <br />COMMUNITY FOOD SHARE GRANT RECIPIENT PRESENTATION <br />Grant recipients were asked to present an overview of their program and how the City's <br />grant has impacted their organization. <br />Community Food Share is a City of Louisville 2013 Grant Recipient. Susan Finesilver, <br />Development Manager, stated their mission is that no one in Boulder or Broomfield <br />County goes hungry. They work with families who have a difficult time making ends <br />meet, senior citizens and school children. The grant will provide 10,000 meals for <br />people in need. She explained Community Food Share is moving to the Colorado Tech <br />Center in August and they are excited to be a part of the community. <br />ASSOCIATION FOR COMMUNITIY LIVING GRANT RECIPIENT PRESENTATION <br />Association for Community Living is a City of Louisville 2013 Grant Recipient. Ailsa <br />Wonnacott, Executive Director, explained they are a non - profit, grass roots human <br />rights organization, providing advocacy support to people with developmental <br />disabilities. They advocate to schools and businesses to raise awareness. They <br />protect the basic rights of those with developmental disabilities and provide their <br />services without costs. <br />
